Fesenko: “With their amendments, the Trumpists are pushing the situation to the point of absurdity. But the chances of approving the aid to Ukraine are very real”

Congressmen from the House of Representatives have submitted 137 amendments to the Ukraine aid bill, which is due to be considered soon. Some of them are quite absurd and make the bill almost impossible to implement if passed.
For example, South Carolina Congresswoman Nancy Mace has registered 7 alternative amendments. Among other things, she suggests that the bill should not come into force while US military personnel are on food stamps and veterans are homeless, or until the US has a balanced budget (which has not happened since 2001).
The most exotic amendments were made by another Trump supporter, Marjorie Taylor Green of Georgia. In particular, her amendments prohibit funding until the persecution of Christians in Ukraine stops and all biolabs are closed.
135 of the 137 amendments were registered by Republican congressmen.
Komersant Ukrayinsky
asked political expert Volodymyr Fesenko to comment on the situation. He emphasises that the submitted amendments should not be generalised as the position of the entire Republican Party. It is only about its Trumpist wing.
“These amendments are a demonstration of complete absurdity and an attempt to bring the situation to absurdity. Marjorie Taylor Green understands that she cannot stop the consideration of these bills, cannot somehow block this process. Therefore, this is trolling on her part, not politics. She is trolling Mike Johnson in this way. Although he demonstrates a realistic national policy, an understanding of what is in the interests of the United States, unlike this crazy lady,”
– the expert believes.
He is positive about the prospects for the document’s adoption, as for the first time in a long time, there is a noticeable rapprochement between Democrats and moderate, non-Trumpist Republicans in Congress.
“The bills passed the procedural committee, where the supporters of this lady wanted to block them. It seems that there is some coordination between the Democrats and the moderate wing of the Republicans in the lower house of Congress, so for the first time in the last 7 months there is a real chance that the aid to Ukraine will be approved. I would not say it is 100%, there are still risks. But now there are the most realistic and high enough chances for the adoption of these bills, including the one on assistance to Ukraine,”
– commented Volodymyr Fesenko.
