Philip Morris Ukraine has been granted AEO status: what does this mean for customs clearance?

2 March 19:05

The State Customs Service has granted Philip Morris Ukraine the status of Authorized Economic Operator (AEO). This was reported by the State Customs Service of Ukraine, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".

The company is a subsidiary of the international group Philip Morris International.

What does AEO status give?

Authorized Economic Operator status provides a number of simplifications in customs clearance:

  • the possibility of simplified declaration;
  • priority in completing customs formalities;
  • use of a dedicated lane at border crossing points;
  • other administrative advantages.

The customs service emphasizes that AEO is the highest level of trust in a company. To obtain this status, a company undergoes a thorough check of its financial stability, security of logistics processes, and transparency of accounting.

How many companies are already in the program

Currently, more than 115 companies have joined the AEO program in Ukraine. The State Customs Service notes that expanding the circle of participants contributes to deeper integration of Ukrainian business into global trade networks and strengthens the country’s international reputation.

The customs service emphasizes that it continues to implement the European management model, under which conscientious businesses receive maximum simplification of procedures.

European context

AEO status has been in effect in the European Union since 2008 and is widespread among companies operating in international trade. It allows for a reduction in customs clearance time and costs in the long term.

Previously, AEO status in Ukraine was granted to Nova Poshta Global and Stalkan, among others.
