Finland suspects a new violation of its airspace by a Russian plane – the second in a month

The Finnish Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned Russia’s Charge d’Affaires in connection with the alleged violation of Finnish airspace on June 10. This is the second such incident in the last month.

This was reported by the Finnish edition of Yle, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.

According to preliminary data, a Russian military aircraft could have invaded Finnish airspace near the city of Porvoo. The Border Guard Service is currently investigating the circumstances of the incident.

The Finnish Foreign Ministry invited the Russian diplomat to a meeting to be held on June 11. Details of the meeting have not yet been disclosed.

A similar incident already took place in late May. Then the Ministry handed a note of protest to Russian Ambassador to Finland Pavel Kuznetsov.

Against the backdrop of these events, concern is growing among the Finnish military. In May, Major General Sami Nurm, head of the Strategic Department of the Defense Forces, said that after the war in Ukraine ends, Russia is likely to increase its military presence on the common border.

This trend is also confirmed by satellite images published by Western media, which show the active expansion of Russian military bases near the Finnish border, including the construction of new residential facilities and storage facilities for equipment.

According to Finnish intelligence, over the next five years, Russia could increase its military presence on the border with Finland to a threatening level.
