Slovakia wants to contribute to Ukraine’s security, but is not ready to send troops to participate in a peacekeeping mission.
This was stated by Prime Minister Robert Fico, who was quoted by the SITA news agency on Saturday, September 6, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
“The Slovak Republic will not deploy soldiers in Ukraine. However, we can help in the implementation of security guarantees, for example, in terms of logistics. I am talking about logistics, such as the use of transportation routes,” Fico said.
Slovakia shares a land border with Ukraine.
In light of recent events and meetings with Russian and Ukrainian presidents Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the Slovak prime minister does not expect peace to be established soon. “I am quite pessimistic about the imminent end of the war in Ukraine,” he said.
The Slovak prime minister spoke about his personal communication with Zelenskyy on September 5. “It was a tough exchange of views, but at the same time, a hand was extended to improve mutual relations,” Fico said.
