Von der Leyen warned the US about the consequences of tariffs via Greenland

The introduction of US tariffs on EU countries via Greenland will undermine transatlantic relations and create the risk of their further deterioration, European Commission (EC) President Ursula von der Leyen said on social media, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".
“Europe will remain united, coordinated, and committed to defending its sovereignty,” she stressed.
Trump’s tariffs
Recall that US President Donald Trump announced the introduction of tariffs against a number of European countries, linking this decision to Washington’s intention to purchase Greenland.
The tariffs will be introduced in two stages. From February 1, 2026, a 10% tariff will be levied on all goods supplied to the US from Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the UK, the Netherlands, and Finland. From June 1, 2026, the tariff will be increased to 25%.
Trump stressed that these restrictions will remain in effect until an agreement is reached on the “complete and absolute” purchase of Greenland.
We also wrote that on January 14, talks between the US and Denmark took place in Washington on issues related to Greenland.
Following the meeting, Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen said that the discussion on the future of the island was constructive.
At the same time, he stressed that Copenhagen had clearly outlined its “red lines” to the American side, calling on the US to remain restrained and “cool-headed” in further discussions.
