Servant of the People faction supports the decision to dismiss Minister of Education Oksen Lisovyi

Today, during a meeting of the Servant of the People faction, the issue of dismissing Education Minister Oksen Lisovyi from his post was considered at the suggestion of the relevant education committee. This was reported by sources in the faction.

The faction considered and supported the decision to dismiss Lisovyi.

According to the sources, the vote on the resignation of the Minister of Education is expected next week.

Oksen Lisovyi: what is known about him

Oksen Lisovyi was born on July 21, 1972 in the Kyiv region.

He spent the summer of 1981 awaiting trial in Novaya Bryana in the Buryat Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic, where his father, dissident Vasily Lisovoy, was in exile. There, his mother, Vira Lisova, acted as a defense attorney in her husband’s case. In the summer of 1982, the family returned to Buryatia and lived in exile for two years in the village of Ilka, where Vasyl Lisovyi worked as a turner, his sister graduated from high school, and Oksen completed grades 3 and 4.

He graduated from the Reshetylivka Art School of Folk Crafts (specialty – ceramic artist), Kyiv State Institute of Culture (specialty – library and information systems).

He worked as a teacher at the Kyiv-Mohyla Collegium, a fencing coach, and supported the activities of the Sich youth organization, and held a senior position at the General Directorate of Ukrtelecom.

Since 2010, he has been the Director of the National Center “Minor Academy of Sciences of Ukraine”.

In September 2020, together with the President of the Minor Academy of Sciences Stanislav Dovgyi, he initiated the establishment of the first Museum of Science in Ukraine.

He is the author of more than 250 scientific publications and 25 author’s scientific editions.

With the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022, he volunteered to go to the front as a member of the 95th separate airborne assault brigade. At the same time, he continues to serve as the Director of the Academy of Sciences of Ukraine remotely.

on March 21, 2023, the Verkhovna Rada appointed Oksen Lisovyi as the new Minister of Education and Science.

on July 16, 2025, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine voted to dismiss Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal. At the suggestion of the President, the new government team was headed by Yulia Svyrydenko, who was confirmed as Prime Minister by the Parliament on July 17. At the same time, a new Cabinet of Ministers was approved, with Oksen Lisovyi retaining his position as Minister of Education and Science.

Oksen is married and has two sons with his wife.

In July 2025, the media reported that the President’s Office was considering dismissing Minister of Education and Science Oksen Lisovyi from his position.
