Former Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko said that in the early days of Russia’s full-scale invasion, attempts were made on his life.
He reported this during a meeting of the parliamentary Temporary Investigation Commission, which was broadcast by MP Oleksiy Goncharenko, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".
What Halushchenko said
According to Halushchenko, the incident took place on February 26, 2022, in Kyiv. After that, he was assigned state security. When asked by members of the Temporary Investigation Commission whether the attempt was made by Russian forces, the former minister gave an evasive answer.
“Ours, not ours — that’s a separate story,” he said, refusing to elaborate on the circumstances.
Galushchenko stated that he was shot at directly in the capital, describing the situation as “times of anarchy” and “friendly fire.” After that, according to him, he was forced to change his place of residence and lived for some time in a house associated with former Interior Minister Vitaliy Zakharchenko.
Witness in a corruption case
At the same TSK meeting, the former minister confirmed that he is a witness in criminal proceedings concerning corruption in the energy sector and has already given testimony to investigators.
He also admitted that he was acquainted with businessman Timur Mindich, explaining that their children were classmates. At the same time, Galushchenko denied the investigation’s claim that Mindich had influenced his work as minister.
“There was no pressure,” he emphasized.
What is known about the “Mindy case”
German Galushchenko is involved in a case concerning possible kickbacks at the state-owned company Energoatom. He is mentioned in the NABU materials in the records of covert investigative actions of the persons involved in the proceedings.
According to the investigation, the context of one of the conversations suggests that President Volodymyr Zelensky called the then Minister of Energy at the request of Timur Mindich, a businessman considered close to the head of state.
Amid the publicity surrounding this case, the government initially suspended Galushchenko from office, and later the Verkhovna Rada voted to dismiss him. At the same time, as of now, the former minister has not been served with a notice of suspicion in this criminal proceeding.
