The Office of the Prosecutor General has launched an investigation into the actions of the Security Service of Ukraine during recent searches of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau. Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko said this on July 23 at a meeting of the Verkhovna Rada’s provisional investigative commission, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
According to him, it is about possible violations by the SBU during searches or detentions, which the NABU had previously complained about. It was on Kravchenko’s initiative that criminal proceedings were opened to verify the legality of the special service’s actions.
At the same time, Kravchenko assured that the actions of the prosecutors were legal and had already been partially confirmed by the court.
on July 21, the SBU and the Prosecutor General’s Office conducted more than 70 searches of NABU employees in different regions of Ukraine. According to the investigation, some of them are charged with treason, illegal trade with the aggressor country, and corruption offenses. The NABU said that some of the searches took place without a court order.
The next day, on July 22, the Verkhovna Rada passed Bill 12414, which expands the powers of the Prosecutor General, including criminal cases of the NABU and the SAPO. Anti-corruption bodies criticized the document, pointing out that it gives the Prosecutor General the ability to interfere in investigations, influence detectives, and even close proceedings at the request of the defense. On the same day, the law was signed by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, after which it was published and enacted.
