Global IT outage halts operations of banks, mobile operators, airlines: what’s happening

19 July 2024 11:14

This morning, a large-scale IT failure occurred in the world: Windows computers, mobile operators, the banking system and even airports in many countries, including the United States, stopped working. According to Oleg Gorokhovsky, co-founder of Monobank, the failure was caused by the interaction between Crowdstrike antivirus and Windows.

“A lot of companies are down,”

– he said.

At the same time, CNN reported that the failure in the operation of US airports was caused by an error in the Microsoft Azure cloud storage platform.

As a result, 130 flights were cancelled in the US and more than 220 Frontier flights were delayed.

In Japan, almost all McDonald’s in the country are shutting down due to the failure.

Airports in Spain, Singapore, the UK, Germany, India and other countries have also faced problems, and the number of them is increasing every minute.

In Ukraine, a number of companies are also experiencing software malfunctions: Monobank, Sense Bank, Vodafone, Nova Poshta, METRO and others.

Bloomberg reports that Crowdstrike shares have already fallen by 14% and Microsoft shares by 2.8%.

According to the latest information, Microsoft has already begun to gradually stabilise the services, but the full restoration of all systems has not yet taken place.
