Tarasyuk confused in his statements on tariff increase for households
4 April 2024 16:35
The management of the National Energy and Utilities Regulatory Commission (NEURC) has no information on changes to the terms of the Public Service Obligation (PSO) for energy companies that may become relevant from 1 May this year, as well as on the possibility of adjusting electricity tariffs. This was reported by the regulator’s press service on 4 April, Komersant ukrainskyi
reports.
“No work is being done to change the current electricity tariffs for household consumers,” the regulator said,
– the regulator said.
This information was supplemented by a comment from Valeriy Tarasyuk, the Head of the NEURC, as follows:
“He (Tarasiuk – ed.) is not aware of plans to change the PSO regime from 1 May and the possibility of tariff changes, in particular, since making relevant decisions is not within the competence of the NEURC.”
– the Commission said.
At the same time, yesterday, 3 April, Valeriy Tarasyuk, commenting on the issue of possible changes in electricity tariffs for households, made the opposite statement.
In particular, he did not rule out the cancellation of the Public Service Obligation (PSO) system in the electricity market, which provides for compensation of tariffs for households at the expense of the profits of NNEGC Energoatom and Ukrhydroenergo, starting from 1 May.
“There will be either changes or the continuation of PSO for households in the current version… If there are changes, they may be difficult, but they will be well-considered. We will be able to be more specific later,”
– Tarasiuk said.
It is worth reminding that Valeriy Tarasyuk re-headed the NEURC in early March this year. A few days after that, the regulator’s website published draft decisions on the upward revision of water supply tariffs.
We would like to add that since the summer of 2023, Ukraine has had a single electricity tariff of UAH 2.64 per kWh, regardless of consumption. Therefore, this price will remain the same in April.
