Chinese citizens are tried for attempting to steal documentation of the Neptune missile system

Jiehua Deng and Yanchen Deng are Chinese citizens detained in Kyiv. According to the investigation, they tried to obtain classified technical documentation of the Ukrainian Neptune missile system and pass it on to the Chinese special services, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.

The SBU claims that the youngest of the detainees is a former student of Kyiv University, expelled in 2023. He remained in Ukraine and, according to investigators, tried to recruit an employee of a defense company to obtain information on missile production. He was detained during the transfer of classified materials. The second detainee is the father of this former student, who came from China and, according to investigators, coordinated his son’s activities. He was detained after the SBU seized phones with correspondence indicating that they had discussed data transfer.

In court, the father stated that he believed the suspicion to be groundless. He explained that he permanently lives in China and came to Kyiv because he learned about his son’s detention and wanted to find a lawyer for him. According to him, he had no intention of collecting or passing on classified materials. The photos that appear in the suspicion were allegedly sent by his son to “show off” an important project, as is customary in their family. The man emphasizes that he did not receive any money and did not conceal information during his detention. They are accused of espionage. Case number 752/22833/25. The hearing is scheduled for December 9 at 14:30 in the Holosiivskyi District Court of Kyiv.
