Thunderstorms, heat up to 37°C and sharp drops: the weather forecaster gave a weather forecast for July

PROGNOSIS

The European heat wave has reached Ukraine these days. Kyiv is already introducing traffic restrictions for trucks. When the air temperature exceeds 28 degrees, the city’s road network is closed to heavy vehicles.

Forecasters say it’s all about the high pressure field that is currently prevailing in Ukraine. This contributes to the dispersion of clouds and a rapid increase in air temperature.

Exclusively for "Komersant Ukrainian", weather forecaster Natalia Golenya made an extended weather forecast for Ukraine and told how long the hot weather will last in the country.

According to Natalia Golenya, this heat wave will last only two days – July 4 and 5. In the south of the country, the heat will last a little longer. But on July 5, the temperature in the northwest will start to drop due to the passage of an atmospheric front.

Weather in Kyiv and Kyiv region

According to the weather forecast, the following weather will prevail in the capital and the region in the coming days:

  • july 4 – expected to be around 30°C, although it has not yet exceeded this threshold.
  • july 5 – maximum 32°C.
  • july 6 – the temperature will drop to 26°C, a time of short-term relief.
  • july 7-8 – the heat will return: 28°C.
  • From July 8 – 32… 33°C, in the southernmost regions – up to 35°C.

Also, on July 5, in the afternoon and evening, thunderstorms, squalls of up to 15-20 m/s, local showers and hail are possible. This is all the result of the passage of an atmospheric front. It will move from west to east, crossing the western and northern regions on July 5, and the central, eastern and southern regions on July 6. This will provoke short-term thunderstorms with possible wind squalls.

After that, the second heat wave will begin: temperatures may reach 30…34°C in the central and southern regions. In some places, it will reach 35…37°C, especially in the steppe regions.

Why the summer heat in Ukraine is “late”

According to the weather forecaster, the June climate in Ukraine is usually moderate: northern air masses often dominate, which slows down the thermometer. the “official” beginning of a real, hot summer is July, and the hottest time is the first week of August, when temperature maximums almost always reach analytical peaks.

Therefore, the first serious temperature records are quite an expected stage of the summer season.

Heat is coming to Ukraine: how to protect yourself

Overheating is a health risk. Summer temperature changes are especially critical for children, the elderly, and people with chronic heart and respiratory diseases.

To protect yourself, avoid sun exposure during peak hours. From 11:00 to 16:00 is the most dangerous period. If possible, stay in the shade or in a cool room.

Wear light clothing and a hat. Choose light, loose clothing made of natural fabrics (cotton, linen). Be sure to use hats or panamas to protect your head.

Drink plenty of water. Do not wait for thirst, but drink regularly. Doctors advise drinking 1.5-2.5 liters of unsweetened and non-carbonated water a day in hot weather.

Avoid alcohol, coffee, and sugary drinks. They contribute to dehydration.

Keep your body cool. Wipe your skin with wet towels or take a cool shower several times a day. You can also use cold compresses. They should be applied to the neck, wrists, or forehead.

Create a cool environment at home. Close curtains or blinds during the day, especially on the sunny side. Fans, air conditioners, or a damp cloth on an open window can help reduce the temperature in the room.

Avoid physical activity. If you need to work physically, take frequent breaks and limit your activity to the morning or evening.

Monitor your health. If you experience dizziness, headache, weakness, nausea, or rapid breathing, you should seek immediate medical attention.

Particular attention should be paid to children, the elderly and the sick. They overheat more quickly, so they should stay in the shade, drink water frequently, and wear appropriate clothing.

In addition, you should be prepared for hailstorms. You should take care of raincoats, protect your cars, and avoid walking under storm clouds.
