DIU destroys another Russian ship

On the night of 5 March, a special unit of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine attacked the Russian Black Sea Fleet patrol ship Sergei Kotov, Kommersant Ukrainsky reports citing the DIU press service.

The mission was carried out by the Group 13 special unit in cooperation with the Ukrainian Navy and with the support of the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine.

“☑️ As a result of a strike by Magura V5 maritime drones, the Russian ship Project 22160 “Sergei Kotov” suffered damage to the stern, starboard and port sides,”

– the statement said.

The Defence Intelligence of Ukraine stressed that “the fire damage to the Kotov took place in the territorial waters of Ukraine, near the Kerch Strait”.

The cost of the sunken ship is about $65 million.

Due to the sinking of the ship, Russians blocked the Crimean bridge for 8 hours.

“The Sergei Kotov is one of the newest Russian ships launched in 2021. It has a full water displacement of 1,800 tonnes, a 60-day cruising autonomy, and a crew of 28. The ship was hit twice by Ukrainian forces last year. In particular, on 14 September, the Sergei Kotov suffered propeller damage and a metre-long hole in its left side.
