Icelandair is looking for a “truly bad photographer”: $50,000 offered for a trip around Iceland

3 April 20:07

Icelandair has launched an advertising campaign titled “A Really Bad Photographer” to show that Iceland’s natural scenery is so stunning that even someone with no photography skills can take great photos there, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".

The idea behind the project is to prove that the country’s landscapes are so self-sufficient that they don’t need a professional photographer.

What the winner gets

The winner of the contest will have the opportunity to embark on a 10-day trip through Iceland in June 2026.

The organizers promise:

  • cover the cost of airfare;
  • accommodation during the trip;
  • money for personal expenses;
  • a $50,000 fee for the content created.

During the trip, participants must take photos and videos of the country’s natural landscapes.

Who can apply

People without professional photography experience are invited to apply.

Key requirements include:

  • age 21 or older;
  • a valid passport for travel to Iceland, the United Kingdom, and the United States;
  • willingness to engage in physical activities, including hiking;
  • consent to participate in photo and video shoots.

How to Apply

To participate in the contest, you must:

  1. fill out the application form on the Icelandair website;
  2. if desired, upload a 60-second video explaining why you are the right fit for the project.

The organizers hope that the campaign will help showcase Iceland’s nature through the eyes of ordinary travelers, rather than professional photographers.
