Military ID card: why it is needed and how to get it

From now on, Ukraine will issue a new military registration document – a military ID card. It will have many useful features. This is stated in the order ofthe Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports
The innovations are envisaged by the order of the Ministry of Defense and came into effect on November 1.
What is a military ID card?
The new document is a plastic card with digital security features and the ability to integrate into electronic systems of the defense sector. It will become a universal identity card for the military and a key to access the services of the Ministry of Defense.
At the same time, until it is issued, the following will remain valid on the territory of Ukraine:
- military ID cards of privates, sergeants and non-commissioned officers;
- certificates of officers, warrant officers, and midshipmen;
- certificates of generals and admirals;
- documents of officers of the State Specialized Transport Service.
When and to whom will military ID cards be issued?
Servicemen will be able to receive a new document in the following cases
- when sent for basic military training;
- during mobilization or contracting;
- upon admission to military educational institutions;
- if the relevant document has not been issued before.
How the ID card is replaced
The card will be reissued by the decision of the commander if
- the personal data of the serviceman has changed;
- the card has expired (10 years);
- the card is damaged or lost.
Main functions and features of the card
A military ID card is not just a certificate.
The document will have a number of digital features:
1. Qualified electronic signature (QES)
It will allow signing documents electronically.
2. Pass to military units
The card will work as a pass in access control systems.
3. Authorization in the systems of the Ministry of Defense
It will serve as an electronic key for working with internal information services.
How long is the military ID card valid for?
The document will be valid for 10 years.
