Elon Musk started selling usernames in X

The social network X (formerly Twitter) has opened access to the nickname marketplace for Premium subscribers. The program participants can submit requests for names previously used by inactive accounts, Engadget reports, "Komersant Ukrainian".
The platform has divided the available names into two categories: rare and priority. The rare category includes the most valuable names consisting of a single word, slang, or a minimum number of characters. According to open queries, such options as @memelord, @phone, @gr0k, and @AIchat are potentially available. The mechanism of distribution of rare names is not fully disclosed: some of them are planned to be raffled off through public giveaways with the selection of applications based on the “merit” criterion, and the most popular ones are to be sold by invitation at prices ranging from $2.5 thousand to seven figures.
Priority names are available now, but the platform reserves the right to reject requests. At the same time, the user is given only one attempt at a priority name for the entire lifetime of the account, which significantly increases the cost of a mistake when choosing.
To keep the name, X has introduced strict activity requirements: users are obliged to regularly publish content, participate in interactions (replies, reposts, discussions), and log in to their accounts at least once every 30 days. In case of violation of these conditions, the platform reserves the right to revoke the name.
The company also emphasizes that it retains ownership of all usernames and can withdraw them at any time, even if the activity rules are followed.
