Elon Musk called for the elimination of the European Union

6 December 20:13

The European Union should be “abolished” in order to transfer control to national authorities, said Space X founder and Tesla owner billionaire Elon Musk, who received a €120 million fine from the European Commission the day before, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.

“The EU should be abolished and sovereignty returned to individual countries so that governments can better represent their people,” Musk wrote in X.

The businessman also said that bureaucracy is “slowly strangling Europe to death”. After that, many more posts criticizing the EU appeared on his social media page, some of which were accompanied by the signature “AbolishTheEU”. The day before, DPA reported that the European Commission ordered the Musk-owned platform X (formerly Twitter) to pay a fine of €120 million for violating the European Digital Services Act.

The European authorities said that X misleads users with blue verification checkboxes, refuses to provide data to researchers, and that it does not have a transparent enough advertising system. This is the first fine imposed under the new pan-European law on content moderation, which has been in effect since February 2024.

The EU measure was criticized by Pavel Durov, founder of the Telegram messenger. According to him, the association “introduces unworkable rules to punish tech companies that refuse to silently censor freedom of speech.”
