Almost half of Ukrainians, namely 43% of citizens, believe in psychics, fortune tellers and tarot cards. These are the results of an all-Ukrainian survey conducted by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology (KIIS) from 17 February to 5 March 2024, Komersant ukrainskyi reports.
According to sociologists, such information can be a certain indicator of the state of society.
Both men and women believe in astrology, psychic abilities and tarot. At the same time, the rate is higher among women (49% vs. 36% among men).

The figure increases from 26% among respondents under 30 to 51% among respondents over 60.
And while among respondents with high income 34% believe in at least one of the listed beliefs, among those with very low income – 65%.

Anton Grushetsky, Executive Director of KIIS, commenting on the survey results, noted that crisis and psychologically difficult periods (both at the social and personal levels) are a “favourable” environment for the growth of interest in such things as astrology, psychic abilities, and tarot.
According to a KIIS survey for NDI in November 2023, 66% of Ukrainians reported a deterioration in mental health after the full-scale invasion (73% of women and 56% of men). In addition, the explosive development of digital technologies and their strong penetration into people’s daily lives makes it much easier for residents to contact astrologers, soothsayers, etc.
According to the Institute of Mass Information, between 24 February 2022 and 16 January 2023, Ukrainian media published more than 21,800 stories with predictions by psychics, astrologers, tarotists, molfars, numerologists and mediums. In total, they received over 150 million views.
The largest number of such stories was published in April 2022 – over 5,800. For comparison, in November, the number was almost 1200.
