Inflation in Ukraine rises to highest level since the beginning of the year

Inflation in the consumer market in May 2024 was 0.6% compared to April, according to "Komersant Ukrainian" citing the State Statistics Service of Ukraine.

This figure shows an acceleration in inflationary processes, as in April inflation was 0.2% compared to March, 0.5% in March, 0.3% in February, and 0.4% in January. Thus, in May, inflation rose to its highest level in a calendar year.

Since the beginning of the year, inflation in the consumer market has therefore reached 2%. In annual terms, inflation was 3.3%.

Core inflation, which shows a stable trend in prices excluding short-term shocks, was 0.3% in May and 2.8% since the beginning of the year.

In May, fruit prices rose the most, by 10.4%. Prices for vegetables, fish, bread, sugar, and other food products also rose. At the same time, eggs fell by 14.3%, and dairy products also declined slightly.

Alcoholic beverages and tobacco products went up by 0.7%, mainly due to higher prices for tobacco products. In contrast, clothing and footwear fell by 1.5%. In the healthcare sector, prices increased by 0.9%, mainly due to a 1.2% rise in pharmaceutical prices.

Transport costs increased by 0.9%, mainly due to a 1.1% rise in fuel and oil prices.

The State Statistics Service notes that the data exclude the temporarily occupied territories and war zones. Prices are monitored in urban areas, but not in rural areas.
