Iran has proposed resuming negotiations with the US: what Trump said
1 March 19:38
US President Donald Trump has stated that Iran’s new leadership wants to talk to him. According to the American leader, he intends to do so.
This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian", citing his comments to The Atlantic.
“They want to talk, and I agreed to talk, so I will talk to them. They should have done this earlier. They should have offered something that would have been very practical and easy to do earlier. They waited too long,” Trump said.
When asked if the conversation would take place today or tomorrow, Trump replied that he could not say. He added that some of the Iranians who had been involved in the negotiations in recent weeks were already dead.
“Most of these people are dead. Some of the people we were negotiating with are also dead because it was a big hit. They should have done it earlier. They could have made a deal… they were too cunning,” the US president said.
Trump was also asked if he was ready to continue bombing Iran to support a popular uprising, if one were to occur (the day before, the US leader called on the Iranian people to rise up against the regime). There was no clear answer to this question.
“I have to assess the situation at the time it happens. It’s impossible to answer that question,” the head of state explained.
The president also expressed confidence that a successful uprising is inevitable, noting signs of triumph on the streets of Iran and gatherings of supporters among Iranian emigrants in New York and Los Angeles.
“It will happen. You see it, and I think it will happen. Many people there, in Los Angeles and in many other places, are extremely happy,” he added.
In addition, the American leader told the journalist that he was pleased with the reaction of the Iranians at the moment.
Conflict in the Middle East
Yesterday, February 28, Israel and the US launched attacks on Iran for the second time in the last year.
In an address to the nation, Donald Trump said that Washington had launched a military campaign to eliminate threats from the Iranian regime, and that the main goal of the operation was to protect the American people and allies.
On the same day, the US president gave several interviews. In them, he explained that the reason for the decision to launch the strikes was the failure of negotiations on the nuclear agreement and Iran’s actions over the past decade.
Last night, it became known that as a result of joint strikes by the US and Israel yesterday, Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and a number of other high-ranking officials of the country were killed. Tehran has already appointed a temporary supreme leader.
