Russia is preparing not only for a long war with Ukraine, but also for a protracted confrontation with NATO. Russia may start military operations against NATO member states by 2030. This is stated in a report by the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW), "Komersant Ukrainian" reports
It is noted that Western security officials continue to assess that Russia is preparing for a protracted confrontation with NATO.
The analysts relied on the statement of NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, who said that Russia is “rapidly increasing its weapons production.” According to intelligence estimates, Russia will produce 1,500 tanks, 3,000 armored vehicles and 200 Iskander missiles this year.
Rutte announced that NATO defense ministers agreed on June 5 to increase spending on air and missile defense by 400 percent to protect against large-scale drone and missile attacks like those Russia is launching against Ukraine.
Rutte also said that Russia could be capable of launching military operations against NATO within five years.
The ISW estimates that Russia does not need to rebuild its military to pre-2022 levels before it becomes a threat to NATO states.
“According to ISW, Russia does not need to rebuild its forces to pre-2022 levels to pose a threat to NATO countries. It could launch military operations against a NATO state by 2030,” the analysts warned.
