Italy plans €140 million aid package for Ukraine

Italy plans to provide Ukraine with a new aid package worth €140 million. This was announced by Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani on 11 June at the Berlin Conference on Ukraine’s Reconstruction.
According to the Italian official, these funds will be used for the restoration and reconstruction of the railway infrastructure. Part of the money will be used to restore the Transfiguration Cathedral in Odesa, which was damaged by a Russian missile. In addition, Italy and Ukraine will sign a memorandum of understanding.
The minister also announced that Italy will soon provide Ukraine with a new package of military assistance, mainly air defence, as infrastructure protection is a priority for recovery.
“I fully agree with Dmytro Kuleba that the main strategy for Ukraine’s recovery is to protect its infrastructure with the help of advanced air defence systems,” he said,

In particular, Italy will provide Ukraine with the SAMP/T air defence system. Italy is among the 15 countries with which Ukraine has signed a security agreement.
The conference in Berlin is the third conference on rebuilding Ukraine after the full-scale Russian invasion. The current event focuses on engaging the private sector in recovery, social recovery, support for local authorities, and reforms for EU accession.
