The Cabinet of Ministers extends the ban on Russian goods for a year
25 December 2025 16:08
On Wednesday, December 24, the Cabinet of Ministers extended the ban on the import of Russian goods into Ukraine. It will now be in effect until December 31, 2026.
This is reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to Resolution No. 1707, published on the government portal.
This resolution amends government resolution No. 1147 of December 30, 2015, which is updated annually. It bans a wide range of Russian goods, both industrial and food.
In addition, another Cabinet of Ministers’ resolution, No. 1706, extended the validity of Resolution No. 1146 of 2015, which establishes duties on imports of goods originating in the Russian Federation, until December 31, 2026.
Resolutions of the Cabinet of Ministers of 2015
In December 2015, the Cabinet of Ministers adopted two resolutions to restrict trade with the aggressor country.
The reason for this was the unilateral termination by the Russian Federation of the CIS Free Trade Agreement with respect to Ukraine on January 1, 2016, which resulted in the imposition of import duties on goods originating in Ukraine.
Both governmental resolutions are prolonged each year in December.
After the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, any trade with the aggressor country is prohibited, as is the circulation of the ruble. In addition, all Russian banks in Ukraine have been nationalized.
A blow to the Russian economy
After the full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Russia’s oil sector faced sanctions, a drop in exports to the EU, and a revision of its supply chains.
In particular, due to the latest US sanctions against Russian oil companies, Russian dictator Vladimir Putin began to consider an unpopular solution. He is talking about raising taxes, which indicates major problems in the economy of the aggressor country.
In addition, analysts and traders predict that Russia will not be able to quickly return to the global oil market even after a peace agreement with Ukraine.
