The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has raised the electricity tariff for households. The decision was made today during a government meeting, reports [Kommersant]

Starting from 1 June, the tariff for most consumers will be UAH 4.32 per kW.

Thus, electricity tariffs will increase by 60%.

The day before, other tariffs were discussed in the media. In particular, it was expected that the tariff for consumption of up to 100 kW per month would remain the same – 2.64 UAH/kWh.

However, the government took a different approach. The basic tariff was left for those household consumers who live in houses heated by electricity. Moreover, the threshold for the increased tariff was made very high. The tariffs for these consumers are as follows:

  • up to 2000 kW/month – 2.64 UAH/kW
  • over 2000 kW/month – 4.32 UAH/kW.

Thus, the government has decided to protect those consumers who use a lot of electricity rather than those who save.

The possible increase in electricity tariffs was discussed after the largest-scale Russian attack on the Ukrainian energy sector. It is known that Centrenergo has lost 100% of its generation, and DTEK has damaged 80% of its capacity.

Ukrenergo urges Ukrainians to save electricity during peak hours.
