The commission for the selection of the director of the Bureau of Economic Security of Ukraine (BES) has made public the decision of the Cabinet of Ministers to refuse to approve the candidacy of NABU detective Oleksandr Tsyvinsky, who won the competition for this position, reports "Komersant Ukrainian".

The government cited security concerns set out in the SBU’s materials. Following the meeting, the Cabinet of Ministers unanimously proposed that the commission resubmit no more than two candidates who meet all the criteria, including national security.

The Commission is currently analyzing the government’s decision and has announced a separate statement on further actions.

What happened before?

At the same time, MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak said that no official letters had been received from the SBU and attributed the decision to the influence of the President’s Office.

Tsyvinsky, in turn, said that he does not maintain ties with his father, who is believed to have Russian citizenship. He emphasized that he has not spoken to him for 10 years, and that he himself fought in eastern Ukraine in 2014 and 2022.
