Who are Ukraine’s opponents in the Nations League

In Group 2 of Division B, the Ukrainian national team will face three teams:

  • the Hungarian national team;
  • Georgia;
  • the Northern Ireland national team.

These teams are competitive rivals that regularly participate in European tournaments and could pose a serious challenge for first place in the group.

What are Ukraine’s chances of advancing to Division A?

The winner of Division B will automatically be promoted to the elite Division A of the Nations League. The teams that finish second and third will play in play-offs to be promoted or remain in the division. The team that finishes last will be relegated to Division C.

The 2026/27 Nations League playoffs are scheduled for March and June 2027.

Ukraine will try to redeem itself after last season’s failure

In the previous season, the Ukrainian national team failed to move up a division after play-off matches against Belgium. The Ukrainian team won the first game 3-1, but lost the second leg 0-3 and missed their chance to advance to Division A.

The new season will be a chance for Serhiy Rebrov’s team to rectify the situation and return to the elite division of European football.

The importance of the tournament for the Ukrainian national team

The UEFA Nations League is an important tournament not only in terms of prestige, but also for the national team’s ranking and the opportunity to get an additional chance to qualify for major international tournaments.

A successful performance in the 2026/27 season will allow Ukraine to:

  • move up in class;
  • improve its position in the UEFA ranking;
  • gain additional opportunities to qualify for European and World Championships.
