Calendar of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers: who and when will Ukraine play?

After the return matches of the League of Nations playoffs, all groups of the 2026 World Cup qualifying tournament in the European zone were finally formed. In particular, the third rival of the national team of Ukraine was determined – it was France. In addition, Iceland and Azerbaijan will play in the same group as the Blue and Yellows.

The qualifiers in the European zone will last from March 2025 to March 2026 and will consist of two rounds. National teams from all European countries will compete for 16 places at the World Cup.

round 1: 12 groups of four or five teams will play in a classic group system between March and November 2025. the 12 group winners will directly qualify for the final stage of the tournament.

the 12 second-place teams, as well as the four best winners of the UEFA Nations League 2024/2025 groups who failed to take second place in their qualifying groups, will have a chance to qualify for the 2026 World Cup through the butt mini-tournaments.

round 2: in March 2026, playoff mini-tournaments will be held, consisting of one-match semifinals and finals. the 16 teams will be divided into four playoff paths, and the four winners of these paths will receive the last European tickets to the World Cup.

AFC (Asia): 8 1st place tickets in the intercontinental playoffs.

CAF (Africa): 9 tickets 1st place in the intercontinental playoffs.

CONCACAF (North and Central America): 3 host countries 3 vouchers 2 places in the intercontinental playoffs.

CONMEBOL (South America): 6 vouchers 1 place in the intercontinental playoffs.

OFC (Oceania): 1 ticket 1st place in the intercontinental playoffs.

2026 WORLD CUP. The final tournament

The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be the first ever World Cup to feature 48 national teams in the final round. The tournament will be held in the format of 12 groups of four teams. The top two teams from each group, as well as the top eight third-place finishers, will advance to the playoffs.

The matches of the 23rd World Cup will take place in 16 cities. In Canada – Toronto and Vancouver, in Mexico – Guadalajara, Mexico City and Monterrey, in the United States – Atlanta, Boston, Dallas, Houston, Kansas, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Philadelphia, San Francisco and Seattle.

The opening match of the World Cup will be held on June 11, 2026 in Mexico City, and the final of the tournament will take place on July 19 in New York.
