Cabbage is falling in price: what is the reason

Prices for white cabbage on the Ukrainian market have begun to decline rapidly, according to analysts of the EastFruit project, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
Thus, today there is a negative price trend in this segment, as producers in almost all regions have started harvesting late varieties of this vegetable.
Over the past week, prices for cabbage in Ukraine decreased by 19% overall. Today, most producers are ready to ship this product at 6-12 UAH/kg ($0.15-0.29/kg), while a week earlier prices in this segment ranged from 7-16 UAH/kg ($0.17-0.39/kg).
According to the producers themselves, this season’s weather did not have the best effect on the marketability of medium and late cabbage varieties: due to the prolonged drought, diseases and pests developed in cabbage fields, which subsequently led to the cracking of cabbage heads.
At the same time, prices for white cabbage in Ukraine are currently 50% lower on average than in the same period last year. It is worth noting that many producers believe that the decline in prices in this segment is a temporary phenomenon, as cabbage is currently on sale that is not suitable for long-term storage.
