Context
Freediving is an underwater sport where athletes hold their breath while diving. The discipline of “constant weight diving without fins” is considered one of the most difficult: an athlete can use only the strength of his arms and legs, without the help of additional equipment.
The competition system of AIDA (International Freediving Development Association) and CMAS (World Confederation of Underwater Activities) are the two main international bodies that organize the World Freediving Championships.
The significance of the victory
The Ministry of Youth and Sports emphasized that Sadurska’s victories raise the image of Ukraine on the international sports scene. Her successes demonstrate that Ukrainian athletes are able to compete and win even in niche sports dominated by traditionally strong schools in Italy, Japan, or France.
Kateryna Sadurska is an example of an athlete who confidently holds the world leadership in freediving. Her victory for the second time in a month demonstrates the stability of her results and strengthens Ukraine’s position in this sport.
