Coffee is getting more expensive: prices have risen to a historic high

9 October 2025 15:09

This year, coffee prices could rise by 40%, meaning that consumers will be affected by about 10%, and most likely by all 20%. At the same time, global coffee trade has fallen sharply due to record price increases.

This was reported by CBS, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".

“Over the next three to four months, coffee prices are likely to rise even more,” says Andrea Illy, head of the Italian roaster and global retailer Illycaffè.

The wholesale price of beans has exceeded $4 per pound (0.45 kg). For comparison, at the beginning of 2024, Arabica cost about $2 per pound, and by October 2025, it was already about $3.85.

This jump in purchase prices inevitably affected the retail market. In Ukraine, coffee has risen in price in almost all categories, both beans and instant.

Due to the high cost, buyers are avoiding stockpiling and buying only the minimum required.

The main reason for the sharp jump in prices is the decline in coffee production in key regions, especially in Brazil.

It is noted that by the end of the year, the cost of Arabica could fall by 30% due to the expected good harvest and reduced demand.

In the meantime, the market remains in a difficult situation. Some American sellers directly state that they will not be able to continue business at current prices. Supermarkets and grocery stores are reluctant to buy expensive coffee, which leads to a shortage on the shelves.
