Bribe of $3.5 million: PGO prosecutor and lawyers suspected of trying to bury NABU case

Anti-corruption authorities have exposed a prosecutor of the Prosecutor General’s Office and lawyers for inciting bribery of allegedly prosecutors of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office and judges of the High Anti-Corruption Court.

“Detectives of the Internal Control Department and the Third Main Detective Unit of the NABU, together with the SAPO, exposed a prosecutor of the Prosecutor General’s Office and lawyers for inciting the provision of an illegal benefit in the amount of $3.5 million. The funds were allegedly intended for further transfer to SAPO prosecutors and judges of the High Anti-Corruption Court for making a decision to close a criminal proceeding investigated by NABU detectives,” the statement said.
According to the investigation, in the period from February 10 to September 18, 2025, the lawyers, having entered into a criminal conspiracy with the prosecutor of the Prosecutor General’s Office, offered the suspect in one of the NABU cases to resolve the issue of closing it by bribing SAPO and HACC officials.
The offenders undertook to act as intermediaries in the receipt and transfer of funds. The amount of the unlawful benefit to which the suspect was incited to provide increased from the initial USD 2 million to USD 3.5 million during their criminal activity. THE AMOUNT OF THE BRIBE INCREASED FROM THE INITIAL USD 2 MILLION TO USD 3.5 MILLION.
According to the agency, the accomplices developed a detailed plan that provided for the transfer of the bribe in parts. At the time of the exposure by NABU detectives, the prosecutor and lawyers had managed to receive USD 200 thousand from the suspect. THE AMOUNT OF THE BRIBE WAS USD 200 THOUSAND.
The urgent investigative actions aimed at identifying all possible participants in the criminal scheme and documenting their illegal activities are underway.
