Kherson region harvests under shelling: losses amount to more than a billion hryvnias

For the 2025 harvest in the Kherson region, farmers sowed almost 220 thousand hectares of land, but due to the war and drought, 50 thousand hectares of this crop were damaged or lost. This was reported by the first deputy head of the Kherson Regional State Administration Dmytro Butriy, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
However, according to the official, despite the war, shelling, and the vagaries of the weather, the region has already harvested more than 46 thousand tons of grains and legumes, almost 5 thousand tons of rapeseed, 2 thousand tons of vegetables, and the first 500 tons of watermelons.
“Our farmers continue to fight for every sprout of wheat under the scorching sun, Russian artillery fire and drone attacks. They have shown the whole world an example of resilience and loyalty to their native land,”
– emphasized Butriy.

Crisis in the industry
The spring of 2025 was critical for farmers in the region: frost and drought led to the loss or damage of crops on more than 50 thousand hectares. According to preliminary estimates, losses in the agricultural sector exceed UAH 1 billion.
According to Butriy, 300 farms have already applied to the regional authorities to record their losses. The Kherson Regional State Administration has set up commissions to record the damaged land. In addition, requests for urgent support for farmers have been sent to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and international partners.
