Who will control Energoatom: the composition of independent members of the Supervisory Board has been approved

The Nomination Committee has unanimously approved independent members of the new Supervisory Board of NNEGC Energoatom. This was announced by the First Vice Prime Minister – Minister of Economy of Ukraine Yulia Svyrydenko, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports
The Nomination Committee included representatives of the Government of Ukraine, as well as independent international observers – the European Union, EBRD, IFC and the Business Ombudsman.
The candidates were selected on a competitive basis and were supported by all committee members.
Who joined the new Supervisory Board
Four international experts with many years of experience in the nuclear, energy and financial sectors became independent members of the Supervisory Board of Energoatom:
- Rumina Velshi – international expert on nuclear safety and regulatory oversight. Over 40 years in the industry. She has served as the head of the Canadian Nuclear Regulator, the IAEA Commission on Safety Standards and the Association of International Nuclear Regulators.
- Laura Garbenchute-Bakienet is a specialist in finance, audit and risk management in the energy and infrastructure sectors. She has over 25 years of experience. Leadership roles in PwC (USA, Ukraine, Lithuania), audit and risk management at strategic energy facilities, including Ignalina NPP.
- Patrick Fragman is an engineer and international manager in the nuclear and energy industry. He has over 30 years of experience. Former President and CEO of Westinghouse Electric Company.
- Brice Bouillon is an energy regulation and corporate governance lawyer. He held senior positions at EDF International and EDF Energy, was responsible for legal, compliance and regulatory functions, and worked at the French Council of State and the Energy Regulatory Commission.
Next steps and governance reform
According to Yulia Svyrydenko, the selection of three state representatives to the Supervisory Board of Energoatom is expected to be completed in the first half of January.
At the same time, the government is continuing a large-scale renewal of supervisory boards in the entire energy sector. The reform covers, in particular, Naftogaz Group, Ukrhydroenergo, NPC Ukrenergo, GTS Operator of Ukraine, Centrenergo and others – 12 state-owned companies in total.
All charters and internal regulations are being brought in line with OECD principles. At the same time, state audits of Energoatom and defense companies are ongoing. According to Svyrydenko, their results will be passed on to law enforcement agencies without delay.
