30 July 2024 15:56

Mobilisation continues in Ukraine. Men between the ages of 18 and 60 who are found fit for military service by a military qualification commission are subject to conscription. However, it is worth remembering that the updated law on mobilisation defines the categories of people who will be deprived of the right to defer mobilisation from 1 August, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports

However, the updated law on mobilisation defines ten categories of citizens who will be deprived of the right to defer mobilisation.

In particular, these are persons liable for military service:

  • Undergraduate and postgraduate students studying part-time or in the evening
  • Undergraduate and postgraduate students who are pursuing their second, third, or higher education
  • Men with many children who are in arrears with child support payments (the amount of the debt must exceed the amount of payments for three months, and in case of repayment and timely payment, a deferral can be arranged)
  • Persons caring for a spouse with a disability of group III
  • Single fathers, if the mother is not deprived of parental rights, not declared dead or missing, do not serve a sentence
  • Certain men who care for persons with disabilities of groups I and II (if there are no other non-military able-bodied family members who can provide care)
  • Persons working at enterprises, institutions and organisations of the Ministry of Defence
  • Persons who have the status of “restrictedly fit” – due to the cancellation of this category (if the MEC declares a man fit)
  • Men who were declared healthy during the second VLC (in accordance with the current law, all medical reports of the VLC and the MSEC on granting the I and II disability groups issued to persons after 24 February 2022 must be confirmed by undergoing a second medical examination)
  • Persons working at enterprises, institutions and organisations of the Ministry of Defence
  • Persons who have the status of “restrictedly fit” – due to the cancellation of this category (if the military qualification commission recognises the man as fit)
  • Men who were declared healthy during the second VLC (according to the current law, all medical reports of the VLC and MSEC on the granting of the first and second disability groups issued to persons after 24 February 2022 must be confirmed by undergoing a second medical examination.

It should be noted that 16 July was the last day for updating military registration data. All men and women liable for military service aged 18 to 60 had to do so. Kommersant UkrainskyKomersant.Info looked into what to do for those who failed to do so for some reason and what fines violators may face.
