Cyberattack on Gazprom: GUR attacked Russian infrastructure – media

Cyber specialists of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine have carried out a large-scale attack on the network infrastructure of the Russian energy giant Gazprom. This was reported tohromadske by a source in the security forces, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.

The operation resulted in

  • significant amounts of databases were destroyed;
  • access of system administrators to Gazprom’s internal information systems was blocked;
  • eliminated backup copies of data;
  • the information arrays of about 390 subsidiaries and branches of the company were disabled;
  • analytical systems related to pipelines, valves, sensors, pumps and other critical equipment were affected.

The Hromadske source is ironic about the consequences:

“The degradation of Russian information systems to the level of the technological Middle Ages continues. We congratulate the Russian “cyber specialists” on their next “success” and advise them to prepare for the transition from mice and keyboards to hammers and pry bars.”

There has been no official confirmation of the operation.
