New strains: “Nimbus and Stratus
New sub-variants of the Omicron strain are currently circulating in Ukraine:
- NB.1.8.1 “Nimbus”
- XFG “Stratus”
According to the CDC, these variants have a higher ability to spread, but do not cause more severe disease than previous strains.
The Ministry of Health calls for vaccination
Experts emphasize that vaccination remains the most effective way to protect against COVID-19, regardless of the virus variant.
Recommendations for vaccination:
- One vaccination is enough for people who have not yet been vaccinated.
- Additional vaccinations (every 6-12 months) are recommended:
- people with weakened immune systems or chronic diseases
