The number of fires caused by heating has increased almost threefold, according to the State Emergency Service

In 2025, 4,099 fires were recorded as a result of the use of alternative heating sources, killing 205 people. And as a result of the use of alternative light sources in 2025, 250 fires broke out, killing 33 people. This was reported by the State Emergency Service in response to a request from "Komersant Ukrainian".
According to statistics, in November-December 2025, 1,233 fires occurred due to the use of various items for heating and lighting. Compared to the same period in 2024 (1,539 fires), there was a decrease of 19.9%. However, if we compare the number of fires registered due to the use of such items in November-December 2025 with September-October 2025 (1,233 and 452 fires, respectively), we can see a 2.7-fold increase in the number of fires during the colder season.
In November-December 2025, such fires most often occurred in the Kyiv, Zhytomyr, Vinnytsia, and Chernihiv regions. At the same time, almost 93% of such fires occurred in residential premises.
According to statistics, in 2025, there were fires related to the use of emergency and backup light and power sources, including:
Candles – 242 fires, 32 people died;
Electric inverters and charging stations – 47 fires, 2 fatalities;
Generators – 42 fires, 0 fatalities;
Power banks – 19 fires, 0 fatalities.
The most common causes of fires are: violation of fire safety rules when operating stoves, defects in the design of chimneys, violation of chimney installation rules, and carelessness when handling open flames.
