A cat for the price of a car: Kyiv is looking for a buyer for a rare British cat

A British shorthair golden chinchilla cat is being sold in Kyiv for 286 thousand hryvnias. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to the OLX platform.
The owners explain the high price by the cat’s rare color: each hair has a light base and golden tips. The cat is currently 12 months old.
They add that they are selling a show class animal in the cobbler type.
“Cobbies” in the context of cats refers to a body type, not a breed. The cobbler-type is characterized by a short, stocky body, broad chest, short neck, and rounded head. This type is found in various breeds of cats, including, for example, British Shorthair.
Show class animals meet the high standards of the breed and have the potential to participate in exhibitions and receive titles. These cats usually have exceptional physical characteristics and meet the requirements of the breed standard set by felinological organizations.
Show class kittens must meet the breed standard as closely as possible, including appearance, color, size, head shape, conformation, and other characteristics.
In catteries, the phenotype of a kitten (external signs) is evaluated at an early age, from about 1.5 months, to determine whether it is suitable for show class. It is understood that such kittens are likely to maintain compliance with the standard throughout their lives, making them suitable for exhibitions and breeding.
The British Shorthair Golden Chinchilla cat is a representative of one of the most popular breeds in the world, the British Shorthair, which impresses not only with its calm and balanced character but also with its exceptional appearance. It has a stocky, strong build, rounded large head, short nose, and thick, dense coat that creates the effect of a “plush toy.” But the real decoration of this animal is its unique coat color – golden chinchilla.
It is distinguished by the fact that only the tips of the coat are colored, while the undercoat remains light. This creates a delicate, almost ephemeral veil effect, as if the coat is shimmering with soft golden light. Combined with the breed’s characteristic large rounded eyes, usually deep green or turquoise, these cats give the impression of fairy-tale toys. Their appearance is so photogenic that they often become the stars of Instagram, TikTok, advertising campaigns, and even appear in the media as symbols of aesthetics and home comfort.
The popularity of such cats is explained not only by their appearance but also by their friendly temperament. They easily adapt to family life, get along well with children and other animals, are not aggressive, not loud, and are quite calm. Because of its rare and graceful color, the British Golden Chinchilla Shorthair cat is considered one of the most prestigious and expensive variations of the breed.
