Ukraine’s first pea-based bioadhesive plant was opened in the Korosten Industrial Park (Zhytomyr region). The project’s investor is Korosten MDF Plant, which is developing the industrial park. The bio-based glue will be used in the production of wooden eco-boards for the construction and furniture industries. This was announced by the Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Economic Development Dmytro Kysylevsky, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports
The design capacity of the new bio-based adhesive plant is 3000 tons per month. The company plans to process about 1 million tons of peas a year. These volumes are more than twice the annual pea harvest in Ukraine in 2024 (465 thousand tons), so until Ukrainian farmers increase the area under this crop, part of the production needs will be covered by imports from Hungary and Poland.
Currently, Korosten MDF Plant is consulting with farmers in Zhytomyr, Kyiv, Cherkasy, Kirovohrad, and Dnipro regions to expand their acreage and sign long-term contracts for the supply of peas.
Why peas
Starch from legumes is one of the most environmentally friendly components for the production of adhesive mixtures. This bioadhesive
- does not contain toxic substances;
- meets EU requirements for low formaldehyde content;
- can replace chemical resins and reduce harmful emissions in the production of boards.

Eco-boards: what the manufacturer is betting on
The planned production volume is 20 thousand cubic meters of eco-boards per month. At the same time, Korosten MDF Plant is building a similar facility in the BF Terminal industrial park (Zakarpattia region). 90% of eco-boards are planned to be exported.

These products comply with EU Regulation 2023/1464, which tightens the requirements for formaldehyde content in adhesive mixtures for MDF and HDF board manufacturers from 06.08.2026.
How much was invested
The total investment in launching the production of bio-based adhesives and eco-boards amounted to 40 million euros.
To implement the project, the investor took advantage of the opportunity to import equipment without paying VAT, which the law provides for participants in industrial parks.

What companies operate in the Korosten Park
Korosten Industrial Park covers an area of 42.2 hectares. It unites a cluster of woodworking companies, including Ukrainian Holding Sawmill Company, Rezalt Eco, Korosten MDF Plant, BF Engineering, and BF Project.
In 2024, IP Korosten received UAH 83.5 million from the state as part of the state project for the development of industrial park infrastructure on a 50%-50% co-financing basis to build an access road.
