The number of gambling addicts has grown 2 times: how many Ukrainians are in the Register of Ludomaniacs
27 July 2024 06:37
More than 7.8 thousand Ukrainians are in the Register of Ludomaniacs. The number of people with restrictions due to gambling addiction increased 2-fold in the first six months of 2024. This is reported by Opendatabot with reference to the data of the Commission for Regulation of Gambling and Lotteries (KRAIL), informs "Komersant Ukrainian"
4,585 people were included in the register in the first six months of 2024. This is 18 per cent more than in the previous 2.5 years as a whole.
It is noted that each month the register is replenished by an average of 760 people.
In comparison, in the first half of 2023, the figure was 115 people, and in the first year of the full-scale invasion – only 26 people every month.

April 2024 was a record high, with 1,041 new people added to the Registry.
In just three years of the Register’s existence, 8,456 people with gambling addictions have joined the Register. Most of the addicts got on the list in the first six months of 2024.
Over the entire existence of the list, 582 people have been removed from it, the vast majority of which – 71% – in 2024.
The register has been in existence for three years.
Now in the Register of Ludomaniacs Ukrainians can be in three cases:
- independently applying for self-restriction,
- by decision of the CRAIL on the basis of an application for restriction from relatives,
- by a court decision.
- Thus, there are no clear statistics on the real number of citizens with gambling addiction in Ukraine, and the figures from the relevant register do not reflect the full picture.
The overwhelming majority of citizens – namely 99 per cent – entered the register upon application for self-restriction. Only 1% of ludomaniacs were entered by decision of the CRAIL, while not a single person was registered by court decision.
Now in Ukraine there are no clear statistics on the real number of citizens with gambling addiction, and the figures from the relevant register do not reflect the full picture – in particular, of people playing at online casinos.
For addicts in Ukraine there are only temporary bans on visiting gambling establishments – for a period of 6 months to 3 years. Upon completion of the terms, these restrictions are automatically terminated.
