Former “servant of the people” Kormyshkina was sentenced. How the MP and her husband failed to hide their luxurious life

Iryna Kormyshkina , a former member of parliament from the pro-government Servant of the People faction, was found guilty of committing a number of corruption offenses. This is reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to a post on the Facebook page of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAP).
In particular, it is about illegal enrichment in the amount of more than UAH 20 million and submission of false information in declarations. Her husband, businessman Yuriy Kormyshkin, was also involved in the case as an accomplice.
The investigation lasted over two years and was conducted by the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office in cooperation with the NABU.
Law enforcement officers established that in 2021-2022, Iryna Kormyshkina purchased real estate on the coast near Odesa: a house of more than 300 m² and two land plots. The transaction value was approximately UAH 22 million. In her financial documents, she indicated that the funds were allegedly given to her as a gift by her father, a pensioner from Kherson region, but his declared income did not allow for such a gift.
In addition, the MP did not reflect the acquired property in her electronic declaration for 2023. This gave grounds for anti-corruption authorities to suspect her of deliberately concealing the sources of enrichment.
During the trial, Kormyshkina partially pleaded guilty, but claimed that she “did not intend to conceal the property” and “did not know about the errors in the declaration.” The lawyers asked the court to take into account her volunteer activities and support for the Armed Forces.
The court found the spouses guilty and sentenced each to 5 years in prison, but, given a number of mitigating circumstances (no criminal record, voluntary repayment of part of the damage, resignation), commuted the sentence to a suspended sentence with a probationary period of 2 years.
The couple also undertook to
- pay a fine of UAH 68 thousand;
- return the illegally obtained UAH 20 million to the state budget;
- transfer UAH 2 million to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine;
- not to hold public sector positions for two years.
The court’s decision can still be appealed within 30 days, but the lawyers said that the final decision on the appeal has not yet been made.
