Oleksandr Trepak is appointed Commander of the Special Operations Forces

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has dismissed Colonel Serhiy Lupanchuk from the post of Commander of the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and appointed Brigadier General Oleksandr Trepak as the new commander of the Special Operations Forces. The relevant decrees are published on the President’s website.
“To dismiss Lupanchuk Serhiy Kostiantynovych from the post of Commander of the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine,”

By another decree, the President appointed Brigadier General Oleksandr Trepak to the post of Commander of the Special Operations Forces.

What is known about Oleksandr Trepak
Oleksandr Trepak is a Hero of Ukraine.
He was born on 15 September 1976 to a military family. After graduating from high school in 1993, he chose a military career. He is a fourth-generation soldier. During his officer service, he held various positions in the intelligence units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and served in several types of intelligence: military, radio intelligence and information intelligence.
Since 2008, he has served in the 3rd separate Special Forces regiment, headquartered in Kirovohrad, where he became the commander of a Special Forces unit.
In April 2014, Trepak took part in the anti-terrorist operation in eastern Ukraine. Together with several reconnaissance groups, he was deployed to the area of the city of Bakhmut and was engaged in radio reconnaissance and counterintelligence. From the end of August to the beginning of October 2014, he was a senior military commander in charge of defending the territory of Donetsk airport and led the repulsion of attempts to storm and seize it.
on 23 March 2016, he was appointed commander of the Kirovohrad 3rd Special Forces Regiment.
During the war, he continued his studies and in June 2017 graduated from the Ivan Cherniakhovskyi National Defence University of Ukraine with a master’s degree.
In 2020, he was appointed Chief of Staff – Deputy Commander of the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Oleksandr Trepak is known to the general public by his call sign “Redoubt”. He became the prototype of the hero of Akhtem Seitablayev’s film Cyborgs, dedicated to the defence of Donetsk airport, released on 6 December 2017.
In December 2021, he was promoted to the rank of brigadier general.
