The curfew may be lifted, but there is a caveat
14 January 22:33
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has stated that curfews may be temporarily lifted or relaxed in certain cities and communities. This applies to areas where the security situation allows it and where there is a need to respond quickly to emergencies, particularly in the energy sector. The head of state announced this in an evening address on January 14 after a meeting on the consequences of massive Russian attacks on energy infrastructure, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".
Why the curfew is being reviewed
According to the president, he has instructed the government to review the current curfew rules for some settlements.
“During an emergency, we can lift the curfew for some cities and communities. Where the security situation allows it,” Zelensky emphasized.
It is expected that specific proposals will be prepared by the Cabinet of Ministers, after which decisions will be made locally, taking into account the recommendations of the security forces.
Why is this necessary?
The president explained that the possible easing or lifting of the curfew has a practical purpose:
- to ensure round-the-clock access to assistance for citizens;
- to simplify the work of emergency and utility services;
- to enable businesses to plan their work processes more flexibly in conditions of energy instability.
What is important to know
This does not mean a general lifting of the curfew throughout the country.
Decisions can be made locally — for individual cities and communities.
The key factor will remain the level of security and the risk of shelling.
As a reminder, Ukraine is introducing a state of emergency in the energy sector. This decision was announced by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy against the backdrop of the consequences of Russian strikes on energy facilities and a sharp deterioration in weather conditions .
