The Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security, Defense, and Intelligence did not support the decision to dismiss SBU Chairman Vasyl Malyuk.
This was reported by committee member Solomiya Bobrovska, a deputy from the Voice party, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".
“The Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security, Defense, and Intelligence has just rejected the draft resolution on the dismissal of Security Service of Ukraine Chairman V. Malyuk. Seven voted in favor, six against, and two abstained,” she wrote on Facebook.
On January 5, 2026, Zelensky offered Malyuk a new strategic role in the SBU system — to head the asymmetric operations department. Malyuk, in turn, confirmed his resignation as head of the Security Service, noting that changes in the defense system are part of the modernization of the special services.
On the same day, the president signed a decree appointing Major General Yevhen Khmara as acting head of the SBU. Prior to this, he held the position of head of the SBU’s Special Operations Center “A.”
On January 9, the Rada received Zelensky’s submission on the dismissal of Vasyl Malyuk from the post of head of the SBU.
