Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has announced that it will avenge the assassination of its leader in an Israeli attack on the night of Friday, June 13. This is reported by The Guardian, "Komersant Ukrainian" informs
On the night of June 13, Israel carried out large-scale air strikes on Iran’s nuclear infrastructure, ballistic missile production facilities, and other military targets. The Israeli Defense Forces announced a preemptive strike to weaken Iran’s nuclear capabilities. Dozens of Israeli Air Force aircraft hit dozens of military targets in different parts of Iran. Explosions were heard in Tehran and the city of Natanz.
The operation was called “Nation of Lions”. The IDF stated that Iran has enough enriched uranium to build several bombs within a few days, and therefore Israel must act against this immediate threat.
Iranian state media confirmed the death of the commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, Hossein Salami, as a result of an Israeli strike.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps is one of the main centers of power in the Iranian theocracy. It also controls Iran’s ballistic missile arsenal.
“The attacks will not go unanswered, and [Israel] should expect a severe and unfortunate retaliation,” the IRGC said on state television.
Iranian Armed Forces spokesman General Abolfazl Shekarchi also threatened Israel and the United States with a “tough response” for the nighttime strikes on nuclear infrastructure and high-ranking army officials. Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said that Israel “has prepared a bitter and martyrdom for itself with its strike” and should expect “severe punishment.”
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced a large-scale operation that also targets Iranian nuclear physicists. The operation will continue until the tasks are fully accomplished, Netanyahu said.
In addition to Salami, according to Israel, during the initial strikes by the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) against Iran, Iranian Chief of Staff Mohammad Bagheri, other senior military officials, and leading nuclear scientists were killed.
Meanwhile, the Iranian news agency IRNA denied media reports of the assassination of the Commander-in-Chief of the Iranian Armed Forces, General Mohammad Bagheri.
Iran claims that he is allegedly in the military command center and was not injured.
