On the night of 13 August, the sky over Ukraine presented a real show – a rare northern lights along with the Perseid meteor shower. This unusual phenomenon surprised residents of Lviv, Kharkiv, Odesa, Dnipro, Chernihiv and Sumy regions. The pink glare of the aurora borealis that illuminated the night became a real sensation among social media users, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports
This atmospheric phenomenon lasted only a few minutes, but left an unforgettable impression on those who had the opportunity to see it.
The most striking celestial show was in the area of the constellation of the Big Dipper, where one could see both shooting stars and pink overflows of the aurora borealis.
The two events are not related to each other, but their coincidence is indeed a very rare thing, so all those who like to photograph the starry sky were able to get amazing shots this time.

The Regional Centre for Hydrometeorology also showed a photo of the Aurora Borealis in the north of Sumy region.

The Aurora Borealis is unusual for our latitude, which usually does not allow such phenomena.
The scientific website SpaceWeatherLive reported that the day before, a powerful geomagnetic storm covered the Earth, which caused the phenomenon in different regions. As a result of the storm, the northern lights were also observed by residents of the northern countries – Canada, Finland, Norway, etc.
No less exciting was the fact that simultaneously with the Northern Lights, Ukrainians could enjoy the Perseid meteor shower, which adorns the August sky every year. These events combined to create a unique night that many Ukrainians will remember.
Experts note that phenomena such as the northern lights are usually observed closer to the poles, but due to the increase in solar activity, they are increasingly visible in mid-latitudes. Therefore, anyone who witnessed this extraordinary night can consider themselves lucky.
