Everyone remained in their own minds: Trump and Zelensky summarize the results of the meeting

US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy disagreed on the future of the war with Russia after meeting on Friday, October 17. Trump had the impression that Kyiv was seeking “escalation and prolongation of the conflict.”
Trump and Zelenskyy expressed different opinions on how to bring peace to Ukraine, and in a “direct and honest” conversation, the American leader made it clear that Kyiv would not receive long-range weapons to strike Russia. This was reported by CNN, citing sources, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
“Trump and Zelenskiy spent several hours together with their closest aides on Friday in what several people familiar with the situation said was a tense, frank and, at times, ‘uncomfortable’ discussion,” the article says.
One of the officials said that Donald Trump got the impression that Ukraine “wants to escalate and prolong the conflict.” The American leader was also concerned about potential losses during the winter, which promises to be harsh.
Shortly after the meeting, Donald Trump posted a post on his Truth Social page commenting on the talks with Volodymyr Zelenskyy. He called the meeting “interesting” and “warm,” and said that he told Zelenskyy, as he had told Putin the day before, that it was time to make a deal.
“Enough blood has been shed, and the boundaries of property are determined by war and courage. They should stop where they are. Let them both declare victory, let history decide!” wrote Donald Trump.
According to CNN, Donald Trump explained to others that this is due to the “realities of the current state of the conflict.” One of the officials said that both sides must reach a deal, adding that “conditions will only get worse.”
Volodymyr Zelenskyy, on the other hand, posted a message on his Telegram channel after the meeting, calling the talks with Trump “can really bring the end of this war closer.”
“Russia must stop the aggression that it started and is deliberately delaying. We are counting on US pressure,” Zelensky said.
What preceded it
As a reminder, on October 17, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy ended talks with US President Donald Trump in Washington and left the White House.
US President Donald Trump expressed confidence that he would be able to stop the war between Russia and Ukraine.
During his meeting with Zelenskyy, Trump was asked about the possibility of strikes against Russia. He replied that “this is only a subject for negotiation”.
