Cristiano Ronaldo sets a world record in football

Al Nasr and Portugal’s star striker Cristiano Ronaldo has become the first player in history to play in six different European Championships. This was announced by the UEFA press service, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports

the 39-year-old Cristiano Ronaldo is also the world record holder for the number of goals for the Portuguese national team. Since his debut in 2003, he has scored 130 goals for the national team.

He is also the all-time winningest player in men’s international football with 208 games, surpassing the previous record of 196 games held by Kuwait’s Bader Al-Mutawa.

He also scored in his 200th match for Portugal, winning in the 89th minute against Iceland on 20 June 2023, and secured his team’s place at UEFA EURO 2024 with two goals against Slovakia on 13 October 2023.

Ronaldo broke the world record for the most goals scored in an international match when he scored twice against Ireland in Portugal’s European qualifier in Faro Lula on 1 September 2021 at the age of 36.

Ronaldo has not missed a single championship since 2004. In 2018, he became the first player to play in five European Championships. Before the Portugal vs. Czech Republic match at Euro 2024, Ronaldo’s record was repeated by Croatia’s midfielder Luka Modric.

The match against the Czech Republic, which took place on 18 June, was Ronaldo’s 26th career European Championships appearance. The match between the teams ended in a 2-1 victory for the Portuguese.

On 17 June, Ukraine lost to Romania 0-3 at the start of the 2024 European Football Championship.
