Bloody sun and pillars of fire: a city was evacuated in the US due to a fire (photos)

In the US state of New Mexico, large-scale forest fires have led to the evacuation of 8,000 people from their homes. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" reports with reference to NBC News.

Residents of Ruidoso, New Mexico, were ordered to leave their homes immediately on Monday, 17 June, due to a wildfire. It was discovered in the morning to the west of the city. By the end of the day, the fire had already covered more than 2,000 hectares.

“The fire’s growth was rapid and was accompanied by extreme fire behaviour,” the New Mexico Forestry Department said.

In this regard, residents were asked to leave their homes immediately and warned against attempts to save valuables or protect their property. The media reported that civilian casualties were avoided. However, dozens of buildings were damaged or destroyed by the fire.

Firefighters and eyewitnesses of the fire began sharing impressive images on social media. One photo shows thick grey smoke enveloping everything around. In another photo, the sun appears bloody because of the fire.

Ruidoso is a village in the southwestern United States, in Lincoln County, New Mexico. It is a popular mountain resort among tourists. As of 2020, more than 7,600 people lived in the small town.
