Former MP was preparing an assassination attempt on Dmytro Gordon: details

An agent network of the Russian FSB’s elite subdivision, the Counterintelligence Operations Department, has been exposed in Kiev. Its activities were coordinated by a former MP of the banned Party of Regions. One of the group’s goals was to liquidate journalist Dmytro Gordon. This is reported "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to the press service of the SBU.
The special service has established the activities of four enemy agents: the ex-narodeputy curator, performer of sabotage, supplier of explosive devices and an agent who was engaged in outdoor surveillance.
In order to disrupt the logistics of the defence forces, the agents planned a series of explosions on the tracks of Ukrzaliznytsia. In particular, the Russian special service gave them a task: to blow up one of the tracks in the Kiev region. The Ukrainian armed forces use it to transport equipment and personnel to the frontline regions. However, the SBU managed to prevent the sabotage, the report said.
As established by the investigation, in case of successful fulfilment of the enemy tasks, the ex-Nardeputy planned to expand his network and carry out sabotage actually throughout the territory of Ukraine.
The agents also collected data on Ukrainian figures who were of interest to the FSB: places of residence and visits, the schedule of the day and the circle of communication of certain persons.
“All this is with the aim of further physical liquidation of these figures. Among those on whom the Russian special services were preparing a contract killing was Ukrainian journalist Dmitry Gordon”, – said in the SBU.
The special service detained all four agents, including the former MP. They are in custody. During searches, they were found communication equipment and electronic devices with evidence of intelligence and subversive activities in favour of Russia.
Depending on the committed offences, the detainees have been informed of suspicion under the following articles of the Ukrainian Criminal Code:
- art.111 (high treason);
- article 113 (sabotage);
- article 258 (terrorist act).
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
